GBP/USD Review – October 20

The GBP/USD currency pair traded fairly quietly on Monday, as expected. The riots and nationwide unrest didn't hit the pound, so it didn't drop significantly. That said, it would be wrong to say nothing interesting is happening in the UK. Over the past two years we have often used the phrase "American farce," because events in the US sometimes took on a comic character.

EUR/USD Review – October 20

The EUR/USD pair retraced slightly on Monday but traded fairly quietly overall. The day and the week began with a modest decline in the single currency, and most commentators — barely awake — immediately pointed to riots and strikes in France that have spread to other EU countries.

GBP/USD Review – October 19

The GBP/USD currency pair continued its upward move on the week's last trading day. Friday's key event was Federal Reserve chair Kevin Warsh's speech, which the market judged to have failed to react strongly to September's acceleration in US inflation.

EUR/USD Review – October 19

The EUR/USD pair continued to rise moderately on Friday — and I say "moderately, but still" because over the past month any gain in the euro has become an event to celebrate, like payday or the start of a holiday. For the last month we have argued that the dollar's advance was wholly illogical and purely speculative.

GBP/USD Review – October 16

The GBP/USD currency pair posted a fairly strong rally on the fourth trading day of the week, the first reasonable move in the market in several weeks. The US dollar should begin a prolonged, powerful decline, driven by several factors rather than any single report.
